The Program

WHY ALLATOONA BANDS

The Allatoona Band program has been one of Cobb County's most recognized programs since opening in 2008. Three times named a Bands of America Regional Finalist. Multiple Grand Champion titles at Georgia competitions. Superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation every year since the program opened.

Being part of Allatoona Bands is more than performances and competitions. It's a community. Students develop musicianship, discipline, and relationships that last well beyond high school.

CHOOSE YOUR PATH

Allatoona offers multiple ensembles for students at every level.

  • SYMPHONIC WINDS

    Audition

    The most advanced woodwind, brass, and percussion ensemble. Placement by audition. Performs advanced literature at concerts and GMEA-sponsored festivals, with emphasis on music theory and instrument pedagogy.

  • SYMPHONIC BAND

    Audition

    Intermediate woodwind, brass, and percussion. Placement by audition. Performs advanced literature at concerts and GMEA festivals.

  • CONCERT BAND

    Audition

    Select woodwind, brass, and percussion players. Placement by audition. Performs at concerts and GMEA-sponsored festivals with continued focus on music theory and aural skills.

  • MARCHING BAND

    Open to all band students. Rehearsals 2–3 days per week after school and occasional Saturdays. Performs at all home football games and competes across Georgia and the southeast region. All band students are encouraged to participate.

  • COLOR GUARD

    The visual ensemble of the marching band. Students learn flag, rifle, and saber, as well as dance and movement. Open to non-band students. A Winter Guard program is also offered.

  • JAZZ ENSEMBLE

    A select group of brass, saxophones, and percussionists. Starts in the spring semester. Performs at concerts and regional events.

  • PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

    All percussion students are encouraged to participate. Performs percussion ensemble music at concerts and regional events.

  • PERCUSSION TECHNIQUES

    A fall-semester class for all percussion students developing ensemble skills, drum line technique, and marching band music.

Placement in Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band is by audition held each spring. Marching Band, Color Guard, Jazz Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble are open to all qualifying students.

The Process

HOW TO JOIN

  1. ATTEND AN INFO NIGHT

    Watch for announcements from your middle school band director about Allatoona Band info nights each spring.

  2. AUDITION

    Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band placement is determined by auditions held in late spring. Prepare your scales and a prepared piece.

  3. REGISTER

    Once accepted, complete enrollment through Cobb County Schools and register for your ensemble class.

  4. JOIN THE MARCHING BAND

    All band students are encouraged to participate in the Marching Buccaneers. Band camp begins in late July.
