The Allatoona High School Band program opened in the fall of 2008. What follows is the story of a program built from nothing into one of Georgia's most recognized competitive band programs in under two decades.
FOUNDING
Allatoona High School opened in the fall of 2008 as the newest high school in Cobb County, located in Acworth, Georgia. Mark Gurnow was appointed Director of Bands and tasked with building the program from the ground up. The Allatoona Band Booster Association was established to support the program's growth.
BUILDING THE PROGRAM
From its first season, the Allatoona Band program established a culture of excellence. All concert ensembles received superior ratings at the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation — a standard the program has maintained every year since opening.
